Apartments plan for former language college

Plans are afoot to convert a former language school building in Millbay to flats.
An application has been submitted to Plymouth Council to convert Mayflower College on the junction of Radford Road and Great Western Road into 13 apartments.
The building occupies a historic building that was likely built as a series of terraced villas or a hotel.
The application says the aim is “to create high-quality new residences in a sustainable location and to breathe new life into a historic building that will have a positive influence on the local character of the area.”
Architects PMR say in the design and access statement: “The proposal is to convert the existing building to apartments. The original structural walls of the building will be retained where possible, with the majority of the proposed demolition being the later stud walls.
“The previous single-storey extensions to the rear will be demolished in order to create an entrance courtyard, a bike store and a lightwell to provide better amenity to the apartments. Two of the ground-floor apartments will be wheelchair accessible. The entrance to the complex will be via the courtyard off Great Western Road, which will have an element of planting to improve visual amenity.”
